Storm Water Management

Does your lawn turn into a swampy mess every time it rains hard?

Flooded yards, constant wet spots or raging streams across backyards during a storm are some of the most common issues we deal with during our design and install processes. There are multiple solutions available to help mitigate these issues and we can help install a design that are is both highly functional AND attractive.

Water Management Solutions Including:

Solutions We Can Deploy

Drainage Systems

When your property is a swamp, you simply cannot enjoy it! Meanwhile, standing water can actually be a health hazard, as it gives rise to mosquitoes and other pests. Standing water also seriously jeopardizes the health of your lawn and landscape plantings.

Unfortunately a mushy yard isn’t just an aesthetic issue, it can lead also to costly fix-it issues inside your home.

Poor yard drainage and standing water can indicate several potential issues, including: negative grading sloping towards your basement walls, poor soil composition, compaction or percolation, improper downspout connections or deficient hardscape runoff planning. Any of these issues can ultimately contribute to wet floors or a flooded basement.

Example Solutions Include:

  • Surface drainage systems and swales

  • Channel systems & dry wells

  • Subsurface systems & French drains

  • Downspout design & catch basins

  • Slope drainage and grading

Dry Creek Beds

In this landscaping application, a shallow trench is created and then filled with various sized stones to smartly direct water to more beneficial parts of your property. The functional part of the creek bed reduces erosion and helps slow down rushing storm water, while the aesthetic side can be shaped to blend in beautiful plantings and shrubs.

Many times we can design dry creek beds to be used in conjunction with rain gardens and rain harvesting systems. This combined approach works to alleviate your messy water issues, reduces the related impact that storm runoff creates and further enhances the local ecosystem.

Erosion Control

Most yard erosion issues stem directly from poor landscape planning. Either on your own property or combined from neighboring yards that end up funneling a surge of water onto your backyard every time it rains.

Contributing factors usually include; Poorly graded lots, sparse/incorrect vegetative cover, failed retaining walls, deficient runoff paths for non-permeable surfaces.

Fortunately we can conduct a site-visit and help provide you the right answers here. We will assess the ongoing issues and develop a master plan for remediation of the problem areas.

Sustainable Landscaping Solutions Include:

  • Soil stabilization & grading

  • Deep-rooted vegetative cover using native plants

  • Drainage and Rain Harvesting systems

  • Permeable hardscape designs

  • Proper terracing & retaining wall installation

  • Creek bed stabilization & restoration
